The Bake House Interior

Stonesfield is a village of historic interest renowned for the mining of roofing tiles, ‘Stonesfield Slates’, and for the Roman Villa, a twenty minute walk away through beautiful countryside, with its unusual mosaic floor. The Old Bakehouse was the village Bakery until the 1970s and is a delightful grade 2 listed Cotswold stone building with the entrance opening into a hall which was once the site of the oven. It retains its original features of flagstone floors on the ground floor, wooden floor boards above, lovely old timbers and the stunning cast iron oven door.

This is a tranquil village ideally situated for exploring Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, surrounded by beautiful countryside and excellent walks including the Oxfordshire Way, which runs alongside the boundary of the property. It is well placed for visiting the old market town of Burford, the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’ with its typical Cotswold buildings and the Wildlife Park, Stratford upon Avon, the home of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, and Oxford with its University Colleges, parks and shopping. The historic market town of Woodstock and Blenheim Palace, the birth place of Winston Churchill, are 2 miles away. Another popular shopping destination, Bicester Village, is only 13 miles away and it’s only a 15 minute drive to Soho Farmhouse and Daylesford. There are numerous interesting places to visit within an hour’s drive with diverse activities and interest for all the family.

The village is well facilitated with a grocery store selling groceries, newspapers and wine, a Post Office and hairdresser. There is a regular bus service to Oxford and Woodstock, Charlbury railway station is only 2miles away and Oxford Parkway a 20 minute drive, both with a regular service to London.

The cottage is cosy with gas central heating and a wood burning stove. On the ground floor is a large hallway, downstairs toilet, living room with French windows, a kitchen dining room fully equipped with a cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave. WIFI and Freeview TV are also available. On the first floor is a double bedroom with King Size bed, a second twin bedroom, and a bathroom which includes a traditional cast iron roll top bath. Crisp white linen and towels are provided.

The Old Bake House has its own courtyard seating area with barbeque, from which you can enjoy the sunset in the evening and rolling countryside during the day.
